“There comes a time in a man’s life when to get where he has to go – if there are no doors or windows he walks through a wall.”

ronitphoto

Another thing I’ve been working on these past few weeks is rebranding. I still need to finalize picks for my portfolio and Romeo’s working on a logo, but you can get a feel for what I’m going for here. ronitphoto will focus on (er, no pun intended) environmental portraiture, editorial and social action. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll keep my blog here, or have everything branded under my business name – any thoughts on this from photographers or any freelancing creatives out there?

The Swifts

I can’t believe I’ve lived in Portland for over 15 years and only made it to see the Swifts last week. Such a fantastic sight! If you’re in Portland, here’s some info on this year’s Swift Watch, and for those of you who live elsewhere, this clip gives you an idea of what it’s like. Definitely check it out, it’s a beautiful way to spend an evening!

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”

~ Elliott Erwitt

“Anytime you get emotion in an image, people are drawn to it.”

~ Seth Resnick

I got to hear Seth Resnick speak last week, and I am beyond inspired. Seth is a master technician, and I love his philosophy towards photography as both an art and a business. Check out his colorful, graphic work here.

Everything Is Photograph

“I was born for photography. I changed everything in my life for it. You only have one life. No hurry for me, I have the time. Everything is photograph.”

Broken Pattern

Broken Pattern

“A pattern is interesting, but a broken pattern is infinitely more interesting.”

~ Josef Albers

Tom Hassler clued me in to this quote during my portfolio review. Thanks, Tom!

On Mentorship

Yesterday I met with renowned photographer Tom Hassler for a mentoring session. I took a lighting workshop from Tom a few weeks ago, and the minute I saw his work I knew he’d be a good match for me – it’s graphic and bold and has the most amazing human quality. Plus, he loves architecture, graffiti and Mexico.

Tom’s input and guidance were priceless and my head is swimming! I’m rethinking both how I shoot and post-process my work. I can’t wait to get out there and shoot with his tips!
